Discover delightful toddler activities to burn off extra energy! Engage your little one in fun and stimulating play for a happy, active, and healthy childhood.

As a mom, I know that feeling when it’s rainy outside and you’re struggling to find ways to keep your toddler entertained. You may be running out of ideas and tempted to give them screen time.

Later, you realize that your child hasn’t burned much energy, and bedtime is still far away. Don’t worry, I’m here to help! Below, you’ll find the best ideas to keep your toddler occupied, giving you a few minutes
of well-deserved break.

    1. Painting ice cubes

Exercise caution and provide adequate supervision when using ice cubes, as they pose a choking hazard.

That idea is simple and awesome. I remember how surprised my daughter was when I introduced her to this play.
When there is a possibility of making a mess, I always make sure to place a towel on the floor. No one likes to do extra cleaning after the play is over.

    You will need:

    • plastic bin
    • I like using these no-spill paint cups to make my life easier;)
    • washable paint – this is my favorite type
    • As many ice cubes as you can get to fill the bin

In this game, there are definitely no rules on what the final effect should look like!

    2. Rainy Day Bath

When I’m running out of ideas to entertain my toddler, I treat her to a daytime bubble bath. Why not? She loves it, and it saves me from worrying about it in the evening when I’m tired 🙂

I like to add something special to make bath time fun for my daughter. Recently, my friend recommended a shower ice cream bath machine, which makes magic! She loves playing in her ‘ice cream shop’ in the sand and can now enjoy it in the bathtub. Genius!

     3. Scissor Experiments

Cutting with scissors is a great exercise to develop motor skills in children who cannot hold a pencil and write. This skill helps children learn how to properly hold pencils in the future. When my daughter was three years old, I gave her newspapers to cut as she liked. I drew lines and shapes for her to cut over as she grew up. It is essential to choose the right scissors for your child. We used this when she was younger and later transitioned to this

    4. Bowling with Cups

Bowling can be played indoors by setting up a mini bowling alley using overturned plastic cups as pins. You can use the traditional triangle setup or create a stacked pyramid. Then, roll a tennis ball to knock them down.

    5. Yoga for Kids to Burn Off Extra Energy

Like most toddlers, my little one also needs a good sleep when she’s tired. As screen time can be a temptation, I try to make the most of it and play videos that engage her to move around.

    My recommendations:

    6. Washing Toys

It is as simple as that. You don`t need to overthink it. Just don`t make my mistake and check the toys before you put them in the water if they don`t have any electronic parts built in 😉
Set up the washing station like you did while painting ice cubes. You can even use the same plastic bin!

    7. Sensory bin

Setting up a sensory bin station is much simpler than you might think.

    You will need:

    • Uncooked white rice
    • Food coloring (various colors)
    • Ziplock bags
    • Plastic bin
    • Scoops, cups, and small toys

    Instructions :

    • Place a cup of uncooked rice into separate Ziplock bags.
    • Add a few drops of different food coloring to each bag and seal them. Shake and mix until the rice is evenly colored.
    • Spread the colored rice on a tray to air-dry for a few hours.
    • Once dry, mix the colored rice together in a sensory bin.
    • Add scoops, cups, and small toys to enhance the play experience.

    8. Obstacle Course

After I read this article, I created my own obstacle course when my daughter had a friend over. They had a blast

    9. Indoor slides

I wish I had this when I was a kid. It’s everybody’s dream for sure. It will keep your kid entertained for a long time. This is also an epic gift idea with two options: one for smaller kids and another for older ones.

    10. Pipe Cleaners Craft

These are ideal for enhancing your toddler’s craft projects and motor skills. This activity develops imagination, allowing them to create unique collections.

I hope that, thanks to my advice, you’ll be able to entertain your toddler and enjoy a cup of coffee 🙂
