Is the due date or hospital admission approaching, and you haven’t packed yet? Or maybe you’re like me and prefer to have everything planned well in advance. Don’t worry; I’ve got your back. Below, I’ll present a short list of things you need.
From experience, I’ll tell you that you don’t need to bring a lot of stuff. Remember that hospitals have many bacteria, and you’ll need to wash everything once you return home. So, it’s better to ask your partner to bring you what you need rather than having too many things.
However, there’s one thing I would take from home, and that’s my pillow. Well, the hospital is not a hotel.
The bedding there is not the best, and after giving birth, it might be nice to have your pillow from home.
Pick a Bra
Next, prepare a comfortable bra. Whether you plan to breastfeed or not, comfort is essential. For me, the best ones are those that look like sports bras.

Nursing Pads
Speaking of bras, don’t forget to pack nursing pads. You’ll feel more comfortable, especially if a crowd of visitors comes after giving birth.
This way, you’ll avoid a stained shirt (and if it happens, don’t panic — you’ve just brought a child into the world! Your body needs to adapt to the new situation).

Nightgown and Shoes
You’ll need a nightgown; pack two extra, just in case.
And shoes! Preferably, two pairs, one for showering and the other for walking around the hospital. My husband brought me socks because my feet were icy. Consider packing at least one pair.

Toiletry Bag
Pack a small toiletry bag with only the essentials: toothpaste, a toothbrush, chapstick, a hair tie, deodorant, bath products if you prefer to have your own, and dry shampoo — I’m a dry shampoo kind of gal 😉
I’m not a big fan of makeup, but if you feel better with some on, want to look good in photos, pack your favorite makeup.
Okay, so now let’s imagine you are postpartum, spending a few days in the hospital with your newborn.
You need to be comfortable to hang out in your hospital room. Again, you need comfort to pick up your baby and take care of yourself.
Cotton Robe
So, for sure, take a cotton robe; you’ll have something to put on quickly. You already have your bras, but maybe you won’t feel like using them. Don’t stress about that. As I said, a keyword here is comfort.
Lightweight Waffle Mid-Length Robe
You can choose some sweatpants if you want to change from your robe. Remember, you will be wearing giant undies and a pad. I chose to stay in my gown; I was just too tired to change. That’s why I told you before
to pack two more.
Eventually, you will go home, so you can always use them. Besides sweatpants, you will need a T-shirt or
a sweater – depending on the weather.
And that’s it! As I told you before, you don’t need much stuff.
Postpartum is not going to be the most glamorous time of your life 😉
But look at me, a few years after, I’m here, typing this blog article while my toddler is ……….at grandma’s 😉
My point is to be proud of yourself. You have grown a human out there.
Let others help you; don’t stress about breastfeeding; it will come.
If not, that’s also fine. Fed is best, right?
